Read Mark 5:1-13 The lies that so easily keep us in bondage cannot be overcome by feats of strength or willpower. In fact, it is such attempts that empower the Deceiver himself. He tries to keep us focused on ourselves. He wants us to try to solve everything by ourselves. If he can keep everything "in house" he can effectively prevent us from experiencing the life changing truths freely available through Jesus. This truth has manifested itself even within religion. We are taught to be "good Christians", to look good. We should attend church in our Sunday best as if God cares if you are keeping up with the latest clothing trends. We are taught to fix things within our hearts which does not sound like a bad thing, but we have the order wrong. We are taught to get our heart right, clean ourselves up, and fix everything that is wrong or sinful in our lives before we can receive from God.
